A Shocktopus (plural: Shocktopi) is a distinct genus of creatures that was re-discovered near Club Penguin Island on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 when Puffle Rescue opened. Since that time, they have become well known across Antarctica, from citizens, to aquariums, to government agencies. Although there are officially five species of Shocktopus, all varying in color and personality, most penguins only know of the most common species, the Orange Shocktopus.

History

Shocktopi migrated to the Antarctic in 100 BC. But the kinds that migrated there were different; they were saber toothed, and swam faster. Though some did not have saber teeth and swam like they currently do. Although the saber-toothed specimens were physically superior, the scientific community say they died out during the Ice Age.

Shocktopi could be seen for centuries after that, being the source of many an urban myth and legend due to their electric powers. It is believed that, due to hunting and fishing, the Shocktopus population was down to about 7,000 in the 1600s. At that time, Shocktopi were mainly seen around the Ard Mhacha region of the High Penguin Confederacy, what is now known as Freezeland and the Weddell Sea. After the noticeable decrease in Shocktopi, King Ulmag ordered that the hunting of the creature ceased. Thus, by the 1700s it is estimated that the population rose to about 15,000. Unfortunately, when the 1800s came with new technology and innovations, hunting of the Shocktopi continued. By 1860 it was believed that the Shocktopus had been hunted to extinction, as it was no longer present in the Weddell region.

However, there was still a small, hidden population of about 3,000 in the seas around Penguin Island (now known as Club Penguin). On March 16, 2010, the Shocktopi were rediscovered, but due to heavy hunting by predators other than penguins (such as seals, sharks, giant squids and whales) over the past century, the population was only around 850. Soon after, the USA passed a bill stating:

The endangered Shocktopus is in low numbers. Therefore, none shall hunt it, fish for it, capture it, take it as a pet, nor mess with it...

Later that year the bill was changed, removing the part about adoption and capture. Members could now adopt two Shocktopi of the same species, a male and a female, but if anything bad happened to them due to neglect the penguin could face criminal charges. Also, general capture was allowed as long as it was for conservation or education, such as capturing one to put in a zoo.

Subspecies

There are currently 5 known Shocktopus to science. There are the:

  • Orange Shocktopus
    • They only live underwater and sometimes take puffles as captives. But some have been discovered to be able spend time on land for two hours. Their attitude depends on the animal, some are nice, others not so much.
  • Blue Shocktopus
    • A very strange type of Shocktopus. It cannot spend time on land, and is very rare. It is a shy creature and lives at the floor of the sea, but at night comes to the surface to feed.
  • Green Shocktopus
    • Another odd type of Shocktopus. It spends its time at the surface, and is very common to spot. It defends itself by releasing a cloud of ink, instead of shocking predators.
  • Red Shocktopus
    • Probably the rarest type Shocktopus. It is in low numbers, and swims at the North side of Club Penguin. It is also though to also inhabit countries like Snowzerland and Eastshield.
  • Inky Shocktopus
    • It is a common Shocktopus that can be seen at Yow and Club Penguin Island. They feed off of underwater plants, and eat shrimps.

Domestic Shocktopi

While it's uncommon for penguins to own a shocktopus, some have. Most domesticated shocktopi are trained to not sting/shock their owners or penguins in general. A shocktopus that is kept as a pet must be near water most of the time, and as such they often are housed in pools or very large tanks or aquariums.

Those who have been able to tame the wild beast include:

Feel free to add your penguin!

Diet

The Shocktopus' diet is mostly fish and underwater plants, though they tend to eat Rhopper Berries when they're on land.

Pets

Domestic Shocktopi are usually fed Rhopper Berries and pineapples. Though some Shocktopi don't like Rhopper Berries, so owners feed them grounded corn.

Wild

Shocktopi will feed off of fish and underwater plants in the wild. Common fish are Fluffy Fish.

Prehistoric versions

During Club Penguin's first mount expedition an ice cave was discovered. There was a large viking ship, a statue, a saber toothed Fluffy, and a perfectly preserved saber toothed Shocktopus. It had all its flesh, teeth, and everything. This confused scientist because it was believed the saber toothed Shocktopus died out before high penguins even came to Antarctica. And the viking ship is frozen below the prehistoric Shocktopus, so scientist have theorized that maybe a wave was upon the vessel. But that doesn't explain how the creature froze so suddenly that it was perfectly preserved.

Shocktopi are well known for their ability to create electricity underwater. They have amazed scientists and have made many wonder how they do it. The way the Shocktopus does such a thing is the same way an electric eel does. But due to the Shocktopus' large size they generate enough electricity to scare away predators, or kill their prey. Though interestingly, Shocktopi cannot produce electricity out of water. This has made penguins believe that somehow they use the water to conduct electricity.

Trivia

  • Shocktopi are thought to be intelligent like puffles by some, but scientists disagree with this statement after putting them through tests. However this could be because the Shocktopi were unwilling to cooperate rather than being unintelligent
  • Many penguins have captured Shocktopi and have tried to see if they will survive in other seas. This too has been proven wrong.
  • There are stuff animals modeled after them.
  • Some penguins have used them to torture people by having the Shocktopus squeeze their necks.
  • Shocktopi like to capture puffles.
  • Shocktopi live with their parents for 5 weeks, until moving out to the wild. They spend a year finding a home, then during the Fall time they search for a mate. The Shocktopus attracts mates by showing off it's electric powers, it mostly depends on which male can generate the most electricity for a female to mate with it. Green Shocktopi usually fight for the mate.
  • A Shocktopus' digestive system is much like that of a penguin. Though, the stomach isn't as large, and is close to the mouth.
  • Some countries eat this creature for food if and only if the regular Octopus can not be available to eat. Countries that replace the Octopus with Shocktopus meat when the first choice is not available are most notably Japaland, who eats them in sushi, Liguria, who eats them as a pizza topping, and Castilla, who eats the creature in a seafood Paella dish. It is also thought that Ninjas on Club Penguin might have hunted the Shocktopus for sushi as well, similar to the Japalandese.
