Shiverpool is the capital city of the Antarctic Peninsula and is also the capital of the fishing trade and birthplace of surfing legend Cody Maverick. It is the third largest city in the Antarctic Peninsula and the county seat of Capital County. Formerly a village by the name of Snä Vinn, it was known as Fogvale during the High Penguin Confederacy era and served as the capital of the province of Mhic Lionnai. It underwent expansion in the Olde Antarctica era and was under the rule of the Water Kingdom, where it was transformed into a hub of maritime commerce. Rapid development of the city increased during the years of Colonial Antarctica all the way into the independence of the United States of Antarctica.

History

The area of which modern day Shiverpool is located in was first inhabited as a village during the Land of Asgard, and was known as Snä Vinn during that time. It wasn't until the penguins began to want to become an independent country that the small village began to grow. Thus, Snä Vinn was renamed to Slav'ick and became the capital of The Peninsulan Slav'ens. The place grew until the Frozantium Empire Invaded and destroyed the city, forcing its residents to flee. As a result, Slav'ick remained uninhabited for many years and was not reoccupied until the High Penguin Confederacy.

Following the formation of the High Penguin Confederacy, stability returned to the continent, the area began to be repopulated, and a new settlement was built named Fogvale. In the days of the High Penguin Confederacy, what would become Shiverpool existed as an ancient fishing spot called Fogvale. Many High Penguins fished there to provide fish for the Confederacy and it was also a great center of commerce. As the largest and most important city in the province, Fogvale served as the capital of the province of Mhic Lionnai during the entirety of the province's existence. Then suddenly, the High Penguin Confederacy was replaced by Khanzem. The Khanz destroyed much of the city and the fishing industry began to decline.

In the years following the Khanzem War, during the Olde Antarctica era, a man called Joseph Maverick accidentally stumbled upon the ruins of the former fishing town. He took notes of it's location, then returned with a team of explorers. Shiverpool was rebuilt and the fishing industry began to rebuild itself in the area. The industry brought many people to the city due to the abundant fish in the surrounding sea. As Shiverpool began to grow again, maritime trade began in the city, and Shiverpool was began to develop as a hub of shipping and commerce in the area.

After the STINC War, the king who governed Colonial Antarctica used Shiverpool as a shipping port and military installation for the Puffish navy. Shiverpool played a major role in the Antarctic Revolution by the Club due to its proximity to Penguin Town, as it was a major site of the protests and a base for revolutionaries during the war. The city changed hands between Puffish and Revolutionist forces throughout much of the war, but most of the city was conquered from the Puffish by Acadian forces by 2000. Acadia held the city for a few months before a renewed Puffish offensive forced them out, allowing the Revolutionists to launch their own offensive and reclaim the city after the Second Battle of Shiverpool in late 2000.

Shiverpool was made the capital of the state of Antarctic Peninsula after the war, although there was a debate on whether the capital should've been located in Shiverpool or Aurelia. The Antarctican government began to channel taxpayer money into the construction and development of Shiverpool, which was at least ten years behind all other major cities and ports in the state. Due to the horrid image of Shiverpool being an ugly shipping port, a large percentage of taxes were used for beautification of the city. Eventually, Shiverpool grew to become the third largest city and one of the largest ports in the Antarctic Peninsula.

The city was once again conquered by Acadian forces during the War of 2002 after Acadia joined the war in support of Freezeland. Shiverpool was briefly incorporated into the Republic of Acadia as the Province of Shiverpool. However, in the peace treaty after the war, Acadia agreed to hand Shiverpool back to the United States of Antarctica. After the collapse of Shops Island in 2026, Shiverpool rapidly expanded its port and shipping facilities in order to accommodate much of the merchant fleets originally stopping at Shops, greatly boosting the city's local and regional economy.

Places

Most of the city of Shiverpool exists in the shape of a crescent surrounding the Strait of Shiverpool, although in recent years some development has extended further inland. This area is the newest part of the city, and mostly consists of suburban areas. It contains many houses, mom-and-pop shops, schools, hospitals and small shopping centres and markets. The outskirts of Shiverpool is also the location of the James Kwiksilver International Airport, which is located a few miles northwest of the downtown area serves Shiverpool and the surrounding towns. The majority of Shiverpool's industrial areas are located in east Shiverpool, east of the Port of Shiverpool.

Downtown Shiverpool, located in between the port of Shiverpool and west Shiverpool along the shore of the Strait of Shiverpool, is where most of the tourist attractions in the city lie. Hotels along the beachfront have started to expand in great numbers since Cody Maverick's success, and so has the number of restaurants and outlets in the area. Away from the beach is the commercial centre with some skyscrapers, more shopping malls and office blocks. Maverick Park Stadium, located immediately north of the commercial centre of downtown, is currently Shiverpool FC's home stadium.

Transportation

Roads

Shiverpool is an important hub for the Antarctic Interstate Highway system, with two major interstate highways and many other highways passing through or ending in the city. Highway One passes through some of the northern suburbs of Shiverpool as it makes its way down the coast, while the western end of Highway 2 also lies west of the downtown area. Other highways include state highway 19, which begins at the border crossing with Acadia and travels parallel to interstate highway 21 in Shiverpool.

Air

Shiverpool is served by the James Kwiksilver International Airport, located northwest of the downtown area. James Kwiksilver International Airport is the second busiest airport in the Antarctic Peninsula. Because of the open border between Acadia and the United States of Antarctica, some Shiverpool residents use the Perfume Harbor International Airport across the border in Acadia, which offers some flights that the Shiverpool airport doesn't.

Sea

As Shiverpool is a port city, sea travel is very common. There are many ferries that leave and arrive in Shiverpool by the hour. The port of Shiverpool, located east of the downtown area, is the largest port in the state and one of the largest ports in the Sub-Antarctic region.

Public Transport

Public transport is a popular mode of transport among Shiverpool citizens to commute, since the highways are always jammed during rush hour. In some city streets, there are "bus lanes" which allow buses to drive past traffic in traffic jams. Shiverpool also has an expansive subway system that is the second largest in the state.

Villains

Recently, Skua from the Skua Strait have migrated to Shiverpool. They make nests on top of the chimneys of the factories and often team up in gangs, stealing fish. The mayor has had enough. The Skua gangs steal the fish.
