Presidio Invierno, or Winter Garrison in Spanish, is a small (illegal) Castillan Fort/Trading Post built in the rural inland area of Eastshield. Most penguins from the USA or Eastsheild do not know of it's existance. The "Old" Castillan Road connects it to the other Castillan city of Ciudad Vieja, once formerly known as Old Town. Presidio Invierno was also built on an abandoned place that used to be a Fort somewhere during the times of the High Penguin Confederacy.

History

The area of what is now Presidio Inverno was thought to be inhabited around 1750 by the High Penguin Confederacy, who put a fort in the same spot where the modern fort is. The area itself was secluded and quiet, in an area full of mountains and forest. By 1800, the HPC fort was abandoned, leaving it to rot. During the Khanzem War in 1914, some Naughtzee came across the fort and looted whatever was left of it, and eventually burnt down the original fort to the ground. Ever since, that was the last time Penguins had ever come across the area.

Layout

The Fortress/Trading post is built in the shape of a rectangle. It is mainly built out of wood from the local trees found in the forest. Each corner of the wooden fortress has a guard turret. The walls of the Fortress are also where the sleeping quarters, the training rooms, and an armory are located. The Center of the fort is a large courtyard with a fountain with flowers and small wooden columns with outside hallways that surround it. Outside the fortress there are some gardens that produce crops for the soldiers to survive, as well as a small lake and stream only a quarter of a kilometer away. A grassy area nearby the fortress has been cleared to be used as a dirt runway for aircraft that might station troops.

Life in the Presidio

Since this fortress is basically a fortress, the basic duty of the Soldiers are to ensure that the Fortress would stay a secret from the USA. Meanwhile, the Soldiers practice their skills in the training rooms to keep fit and stay ready and prepared. Soldiers also have to tend to the gardens to grow and cook the food, as well as cleaning and keeping the Fortress tidy as well. Some Soldiers have been allowed to bring their wives and kids with them, so the Presidio also has a soldier who teaches the children in a one room classroom. The wives have also helped with cooking and cleaning as well.

The "Old" Castillan Road

The "Old" Castillan Road connects the fort to Ciudad Vieja. It was built out of stone similar to the roads made during the Penguin Empire so that if any Eastshieldian or any other citizen from the USA would take the road to be a ruin. Anyways, many Castillan immigrants have also built small towns and villages along this road.
