The Club Penguin Times (2005-), formerly known as The Penguin Times, is the national newspaper of USA and the state newspaper of Sub-Antarctic Islands. They are very popular indeed. There was a former version known as the The South Pole Times.

History

The original CP Times was made in 1993, by Aunt Arctic when she was 27. In 1995, two years after formation, the CP Times was accused of this:

CP Papers contain information fake directed in editions 57 and 63. Reports also found that CP Times are using paper in extensive ways hurting the trees from Rockhopper Island and Ross Island.

— Jakous M. Sarkozy, reporter in Television ABC

To revive the newspaper, they created the New CP Times which lasted from 1997 to 2000. After facing financial problems in 2000, the company also failed and gone bankrupt.

The newspaper industry's leader shifted from the CP Times to the short-lived Penguin Times, not to be confused with this paper. It was later cancelled when Aunt Arctic shifted to South Pole City as for the 2000 Capital Elections and made her paper, The South Pole Times. It lasted for 4 years. In 2005, she abandoned the paper and later, shifted back to CP and created "The Penguin Times". It has a different format and newer employees. It is recognized as a different company as they said so.

In 2007, The Penguin Times had been renamed The Club Penguin Times and still under the same company. To this day, they had true stories, no financial problems (since they had a huge budget) and no shiftments.

Design

Up until November 2010, each issue of the CP Times had 15 pages and 3 sections (A, B, C) for the user to read. They have the front cover, the top stories (A section), the regular features like Ask Aunt Arctic and secrets etc. (B) and the fun section (C). In Pengu Town, they replaced Aunt Arctic's section with 24Keyser.

In November 2010, the newspaper received a major redesign (though, major cities still have a new issue every day rather than CP's weekly schedule). It now has only one page (front and back), and many sections were removed. This has been criticized by many penguins, as they liked to read the longer newspaper very much. However, Aunt Arctic said that the redesign was for the benefit of the newspaper and the citizens- it was shortened and given a more "modern" look so that younger penguins would be more interested, and so that it's easier for the newspaper staff to maintain. The new format has an Ask section, News Flash section, Secrets section, Jokes section, top stories section, an occasional comics section (introduced in 2014 by popular demand), and finally the upcoming events section.

Shortly after the redesign, the CP Times staff posted a section on their website (CPTimes.com) specifically for the games that could formerly be found in the paper (crossword puzzles, etc), and the games are updated weekly.

Sections

Ask <NAME>

The "Ask" section is varied from region to region, from creature to creature. For example, though Ask Aunt Arctic is the default everywhere, other famous Club Penguinites (such as Gary, Rockhopper, PH, and even Rookie) often take over the column during parties or events. Also, in Pengu Town's edition, the section is named "Ask 24Keyser". Though the changing Ask section was strictly forbidden in CP in the old newspaper, Aunt Arctic decided to put forward this new method since she is overly busy as the newspaper's Editor-in-Chief.

Occasionally, the back portion of the Ask section will be replaced with a comic.

Secrets

The Secrets section revels interesting or scandalous facts that citizens might not know. In CP, it is often minigame tips.

Upcoming events

The upcoming events, as the name suggests, lists upcoming parties, events, or other functions from the specified city/region. In Club Penguin, there's also a tidbit about the bi-weekly hidden pin.

Comics

There used to be comics in every issue of the CP Times, prior to the 2010 redesign. After the redesign, a section was added to the CP Times website for comics. Also, comics have occasionally replaced the back portion of the "Ask" section since 2014, after popular demand dictated that comics return. Some comic series found in the newspaper or on the website include:

  • Pengvin and Polar- A comic strip about a penguin chick and his polar bear plushie. Created by Bill Pengison.
  • Snowballs- A comic about a penguin named Johnny Blue and his Green Puffle Nosy. Created by Charlie M. Peguin.
  • FanonBall- A political comic written by Bro.
