Statistics |
Larkinson Air Force Base is a military airport located fifteen miles northwest of the Polar District, and serves as the main military base guarding the skies of South Pole City. The airbase houses approximately 6,000 military personnel, and has 48 fighter jets, 5 bombers, 20 helicopters, 4 reconaissance aircraft, and 6 water-bombers based at the airbase. There is also 19 transport aircraft based here, including the Presidential Aircraft, a Snowing 747-400. Larkinson Air Force Base is namesake of Mitchell Daniel Larkinson, the Commander of Military Operations at South Pole City's Elton Air Force Base, which was closed after a public outcry. The base covers an area of 47 sq. miles, with the town of Lake Dalton entirely within it.
History
The conception for Larkinson Air Force Base began by a proposal from South Pole Council delegate Allan Arkinson, who then represented the now non-existent riding of North Eastshield which was dissolved in 2005, after a referendum by Eastshiled residents. The plan was to construct a large air force base in Eastshield, replacing the Elton Air Force Base within the Polar District, which faced public opposition, after a small fighter jet takeoff crash into a subsidized housing division destroyed approximately 190 million pebbles in damage. After an SPC Vote (07-SPC-573), the air force base was closed, therefore, leaving South Pole City in a defenseless state.
Another SPC vote ceded 1.7 billion pebbles to the Air Force, to contstruct the Air Force Base in lower Eastshield, which is now known as Larkinson Air Force Base. The military constructed two high-rise barracks and also 5 hangars as well.
Facilities
Larkinson Air Force Base has a total area of 223 sq. kilometers, making it one of the largest air force bases, if not the largest airport in the country. Larkinson Air Force Base is divided into nine bases, one of which is owned by PASA, and another is used by foreign units. Larkinson Air Force Base is known as the crown jewel of the Air Force, and is also the most highly defended as well.
