Frío is a Castillan Colony in Latin Antarctica. It is right next to the island of Parhentina.
History
Frio was thought to be inhabited around 300 B.C. by aborginial penguins. The first inhabitants began to settle in the fertile valleys and the coast of the island, who formed many different tribes. Many of these tribes were known to fight with each other and even once fought tribes from the nearby island of Beru. The first foreigners to spot the island of Frio was Fernando Magiello, who stopped at the island while attempting to circumnavigate the continent of Antarctica for Castilla in 1518. However, he only visited the island for a couple days before leaving. Frio was visited again by a Conquistador named Diego Alrededor, who also visited Beru to get gold in 1533. Alrededor studied the natives who lived there and learned of their culture before leaving. Then, the conquest of the island of Frio began in 1539 by Pepe de Vida, who easily defeated the natives with their rifles and founded the city of Santagua two years later, which became the capital of the island. However, the battle for the island was very fierce in those two years, and most of the losses came from the Natives side. Even after conquering the island, the Castillans did not find any gold or silver they were looking for, but Frio's fertile valleys became home to bountiful agricultural activity. Frio also was where most of the Castillan military was located back in the 1500's to the 1700's, and was where the Castillans tried to prevent other Ninja Archipelago competitors from colonizing other islands, especially the Pertish and the Batavians. Unfortunately, many Pertish Pirates were known to raid the island of Frio frequently. The island of Frio had it's first census in 1777, with a population of 150,000 penguins. (Puffles were not counted), with 74% of the Population being of Ninja Archipelagoan Decent, and only 8% being Natives with the rest of the population being mixed between the two. The number of Ninja Archipelagoan penguins and puffles began to rise as the nation of Alemania continued to have political turmoil with civil wars and rebellions. Many of the Alemanians escaped their turbulent homeland and settled in the southern area of Frio, which still resembles some Alemanian influence today. Frio prosperously continued under Castillan rule with the rest of Latin Antarctica until the Colonial Antarctica War, which prompted many Latin Antarctican Countries, including Frio, to gain independance from Castilla. Frio's first president was Ricardo O'Biggets, a High Penguin from Freezelandian origin. O'Biggets made Frio into a very democratic state and highly increased national patriotism. However, an economic depression occured in 2003, and Frio became impovished. In 2004, Castilla re-bought Frio as it's colony once more and would remain a Castillan colony if they would continue to keep their democratic republic. Castilla agreed, and Frio also has represenatives in the Congress of Deputies and the Senate in Castilla. After re-annexation, Frio once again became a richer nation that is continuing to develop rapidly.
Climate and Geography
Frio's climate is similar to Parhentina's. The South is home to many forests, while the north is just barren tundra grasslands and mountains. Frio is also bountiful with Lakes and Rivers and is home to a wide variety of freshwater and saltwater fish. Frio is well known for being bountiful with the mineral of Copper, who produces a third of Antarctica's copper.
Culture
Frio's culture is a large mix between Castillan and Alemanian cultures, and can be found all throught the nation. One prominent cultural activity is national patriotism, which all Frioans have. Many Frioans are obligated to hang the national flag of Frio over their home on September 18th, which was when Frio declared independance against Castilla. Althought it was re-annexed, the day is still celebrated, and many parties are held during this day. Frio's only well known dance is the cueca, which is danced at Independance day parties.
Cuisine
Frio's cuisine is also a mix between Castillan and Alemanian dishes. For example, the Castillan Empanada is a popular dish in Frio. Many dishes are made from Fish and other seafood. The island's main crops are corn and grapes.
Languages
Frío is known to have used Spanish and German until the 1990s, due to a mixture of Castillan and Alemanian cultures, and uses English as a word wide language. 2010s onwards, Frío is known to use a main language called Fríoese, a mixture of Spanish and German.
In Modern Days, the Island of Frío uses the languages of Fríoese as their official nation language. Certain regions of Frío still speak German, English, Spanish and a Penguoin variation of Fríoese called Frísks.
Government
Frío is overseen by the Viceroy of Beru in Loma, Beru. The Viceroy has a small council known as the Audiencia de Frío that rules the island and represents citizens in the Viceroyal Congress in Beru. Frío does not have its own local Congress as the Audiencia de Frío serves that role; though Frío has its own Governor and four representatives on the main Castillan Mainland Congress.
