Francterre, also Frankterre in English, is an island in the Ninja Archipelago. It is a beautiful country home to many moutains, forests, medieval towns, and farms. Frankterre is considered to be a strong military and economic power in the Ninja Archipelago, since it is one of the few countries in Antarctica to have nuclear warheads. It closely aligns itself with Castilla and Liguria, who are its closest allies. Frankterre is known for being one of the major cultural centers of the Ninja Archipelago because of its famed food, architecture, and art.

History

The Island of Frankterre was first Inhabited in 50 B.C. by Viking Penguins during the same time Holyswissia was being inhabited. The Vikings settled in tribal villages that often warred with each other. In 10 AD, the Penguin Empire Conquered the area and named the place "Gol". The Penguin Empire helped bring peace and civilization to the Tribes, who soon created cities, like Lutia (Present Day Parie). When the Penguin Empire fell, the island went into chaos, and the wars began again.

A penguin named Charles De Magnet led his tribe and eventually conquered the whole island. He renamed the city of Lutia to Parie, and renamed the island to Frankterre, which is French for Frank Land, for the inhabitants were the subspecies of the Frankish Viking Penguins. In 507 AD, the Batavi High Penguins began to settle into the north of the island and adopted the Frankish way of life. Some of the Natives did not like this, but Charles De Magnet reassured them that they would do no harm, and that they could help Frankterre be a unified nation. After De Magnet's death in 570 AD, there was a long dynasty of Frankish Kings that ruled through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. During those two periods of history, Chateaux sprung up all around the country, and the Arts flourished. The Frankterrans also experienced the Hundred Months' War with the Puffish, which helped to develop the use of gunpowder and caused many castles and city walls to be erected. During the Renaissance, the Franks loved to trade with Frostize and Liguria and were an ally to the HPC. There was also much hostility with the nearby Holyswissia during this period, eventually leading to the Frankterrans conquering the land in the late 1700s before releasing it to become independent nations, Deutschland and Osterreach.

Much later, peace was once again destroyed in 1913, when Khanzem was formed by overthrowing the High Penguin Confederacy. The evil nation occupied the island, and the King escaped to The Good Guys. Many High Penguins's were captured and taken away, while others where hidden in their Viking Penguin friends' Basements. Frankterre also hated Khanzem, and many Freedom Fighters, known as Markees, risked their lives to drive Khanzem out of their land. The Good Guys eventually liberated Frankterre in 1918, and the King once again sat on the throne. The original population of HP's grew back 60 years later.

Later, in 1998, the Frankish King Looie the XVI (Sixteenth) came to power, and he made Frankterre join Colonial Antarctica. Many of the citizens did not like this, because food, items, and taxes became more expensive. Some Penguins decided to complain to Louis XVI's Wife, Mauricia Antennaette. Mauricia did not understand their situation since she was born rich, so she simply said to them, "Let them eat Pie!" This really angered the citizens more, so they revolved and overthrew the King and Queen as they Deleted them with Deletion Bombs. Frankterre established a Republic, and they elected a young penguin named Robles Pierre, who turned out to be a cruel penguin. Robles Pierre began purging and deleting penguins and puffles who were against him or who allied with the king, and such terrible events became known as the "Terror Reign". Robles Pierre was then impeached, and the new president was to be Naples Bon-Appetit, who instead crowned himself Emperor and helped Antarctica become free from the Colonial King.

When the USA was formed, Naples Bon-Appetit signed the Declaration of the Rights of Penguin and Puffle, ensuring that penguins and puffles had equal rights. However, in 2001, Naples attempted to invade all of the Ninja Archipelago, and almost was successful until they reached Rusca. The Ruscans, furious at Naples's attempt to mimic Whoot, invaded Frankterre and ousted him out of Power. He was eventually taken into custody by the Puffish, where they exiled him. Hence, the Frankterrans established the Second Frankterran Republic. In 2006, Alemania wrongly invaded Frankterre, and the Markees Group rose again to set themselves free. After two years of Fighting, Alemania was conquered by Snowzerland, leaving Frankterre under secret Snoss control. Snoss Emperor Swiss Ninja respected Frankterran culture, and let them become a republic again- choosing to instead put a puppet President and legislature in power in the country and leaving them to rule themselves, although their government was loyal to him. The Markees were not even trying to revolt against Snowzerland, as they didn't yet know the truth.

The Hochstadt Gang, who hate Swiss Ninja, revealed to Frankterre that Swiss Ninja was controlling them. Riots immediately began, and the USA was called in to help liberate them. When they did drive out the Snoss, celebration began, and the day of liberation has been a National Holiday ever since. Today Frankterre is a peaceful island that beckons tourists every year. When the MAI Island Frenzy of 2010 came about, the single defenseless Republic of Frankterre happily accepted to be annexed into the Viking Empire. Frankterre was doing very well in the Viking Empire and a great bond formed between them. However, in 2011, the Viking Empire was disbanded by King Carlos Goberna, so the nations parted ways once more, after fully recovering from the Fifth Great Snowzerland War. In 2013, the nation supported the "Allies" in The Great Yowien War and received new territories because of it, although they would lose Glaw just a few years later. Today, Frankterre enjoys it's sovereignty with pride and continues to be involved in the Ninja Archipelago Union and Antarctica, trying to stay out of any more Antarctic wars while remaining a strong presence in both due to its size and capabilities.

Geography

The Climate and Geography of Frankterre is similar to Snowzerland And Alemania, with lots of forests and mountains on the east coasts, and plenty of brown Grassland where farmers are able to grow wheat in the central and southern regions. Please do consider that the climate of Frankterre is still cold enough for penguins to live in, as also the inhabitants have also adapted to the weather throughout the generations. In the winter, It snows plentifully and in all regions. The Beaches of Southern Frankterre is quite nice, almost like those on Rockhopper Island, with beautiful white beaches and clear azure blue sea. Many resorts and hotels are located at the Famous Frankterran "Riviera" (The Southern Coast of Frankterre) and has been a popular beach getaway for the upper class citizens of Puffle'and and the High Penguin Confederacy in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Frankterre's eastern coast is rather mountainous, and it consists of the second tallest mountain in the Ninja Archipelago, Mont Vert.

Government

The Government of Frankterre is a Semi-Presidential Republic with strong democratic ideas, laws, and traditions. The President is the Head of State of the Country, and there is also a Prime Minister. The country has a Parliament that is divided into a National Assembly and a Senate. The Senate has less power, as the National Assembly has the Final Say in everything except Constitutional Laws. Frankterre has several different political parties represented in their Parliament, the most prominent being the socialist and the Popular Movement Parties.

Politics

Frankterre has several political parties that all have seats in the natiobal legislature. Geographical location of citizens usually does not influence their political party affiliation; typically social status determines a citizen's political preferences. Here is a list of active political parties in Frankterre:

La République En Supermarché!

La Republique En Supermarché! is the current ruling party of France and is the party of president Emmanuel Macaroni. The party is very new to the political scene, having only been established in 2017 by the aforementioned young politician; the party doesn't stand for much of anything at all other than being "in favour of getting people into supermarkets", hence the party's name (literally meaning "The Republic into the Supermarket!"). To achieve this objective, the party strongly supports the deregulation of the economy and privatisation of state assets, and hopes that their policies will lead to an economic boom that will lead people to feel confident and secure enough to establish new supermarkets. The party hasn't been much successful with this goal, and has faced numerous protests from the "Yellow Propeller Hats" movement.

Parti pour un Mouvement Populaire

In English, the "Party for a Popular Movement", is a conservative party that strongly wishes to uphold the traditions of Frankterre. They have extreme national pride and are also strong supporters of Imperialism. They believe that they need to preserve national identity and pride by patenting regional cheeses and Cream Sodas so that they can not be produced anywhere else. The party believes in free enterprise and the individual persuit of happiness. The party believes that government should consist of representatives democratically elected by the citizens. They are a large party and rivals with other parties.

Parti Socialiste

The Socialist party upholds the beliefs of Utopian Socialism, which was invented in Frankterre in the 1800's. the party believes in Social Equality in all of society. They stress that workers should be given a voice in the company that they work in so that their conpanies do not abuse them. The Socialist party is responsible for establishing Workers Unions across the country a century ago, and their presence and sympathy is strong. Foreigners often confuse them with the communist party. They have mixed feelings about Imperialism; they support Frankterran territorial expansion, but they oppose ecomonic domination and political inequality over colonies. They have supported for political and economic equality among all Frankterre's overseas territories.

Parti Communiste

The Communist Party shares similar desires for social equality, but they are more radical. They believe that the government should control the nation's economy and that all citizens should recieve the same pay to prevent the rise of social inequality. The communist party opposes Imperialism entirely, though some of them believe that their ideas of social revolution should be spread around the Antarctic. They are the smallest party in the country and are known for being sponsored by East Pengolia. They rival the Parti pour un Mouvement Populaire. Francterre has tried to end this small group, but failed, many, many, times, this has lead to riots because they were thought to be ruining freedom of speech.

Parti Verte

The Green Party is a hodge podge party of liberals and conservatives and is the third largest party in the country. Despite their internal liberal and conservative differences, the Green Party's main core belief is the importance of preserving nature and keeping the world clean and healthy. The Liberal side of this party mainly stresses on the necessity to dramatically change the nation's sources from nuclear energy to alternative sources such as windmills, solar panels, and water hydraulic power. They also want the amount of fish captured for food to be limited in order to preserve the fish population levels and to promote local farmers. The Conservative side of the party stresses on cleanliness and the preservation of natural and artificial history. They believe that littering and graffiti should be fined heavily in order to provide a clean atmosphere. They care about preserving the forests and historic buildings of cities and villages so that Frankterre's history can stay vibrant in the future. Both parties support Imperialism since they feel that it will help them expand their ideas and influence.

Regions

Here are the list of the official Regions of Frankterre:

Alsice - A mountainious province on the Eastern Coast of the Island. It has been a place both wanted and controlled by Alemania and Frankterre, but in the end, Frankterre got it. This province has a lot of German Influence, and is claimed by Swiss Ninja.

Courseica - A Small Island off the coast of Southern Frankterre that is ruled by the Frankterre. The Island was made from Volcanic Explosions, and it has lots of Mountains and Beaches.

Norsemandy - A Northwestern Coastal region divided into two parts, North and South, that was famous during the Khanzem War, when Good Guys landed on the Norsemandy Beaches and Liberated the Island.

Isle of Frankterre Province - This Province is in the Center of the Island and is home to the country's Capital, Parie.

Ukrittany - A small province on the Western Coast Penninsula of the Island. It has a strong High Penguin culture background.

Champagne-Ardanne - A small province north of Alsice. It is famous for its exclusive type of Cream Soda.

Côte Blanche - A province in the South Eastern part of the island that was once part of Liguria, but later conquered by the Frankish. Its capital is Awesome, a city that was founded during the Penguin Empire. The Côte Blanche is famous for its sky blue coastline water that touches its rock beaches.

Culture

The Frankterrans are the most artistic and have the most detailed culture in all of the beautiful Ninja Archipelago. Art is appreciated in all of the country, and it is very common to see artists painting, sketching or sculpting there.

Sniper Tower

The Sniper Tower is one of the major landmarks of the country, and is arguably the most famous.

Created in the 18-hundreds by Sir Alberto Sniper, this is the only landmark to have been built entirely from metal. This is because a competition was going at the time, to see which mechanic could build the best, most largest metal building from scratch, and in a unique design. With the help of some migrating birds and the primitive technology at the time, Mr. Sniper was the first to finish, and the other candidate buildings were burnt to be re-used as mini replicas of the tower, for tourists.

Very quickly, the aforementioned tourists came flocking to see it, and soon, the staircase located inside, which was still under construction for stability and prettiness, was opened to the public so penguins can climb up and look at the ground. This boosted the popularity and fame of the Sniper Tower, and it was mentioned frequently as a new Wonder of the World.

When Snowzerland conquered Alemania and secretly took control of Frankterre, an officer and his regiment thought that destroying the Sniper Tower would be a fun way to show their newfound power and dispose of their spare weapons, but were quickly stopped, as the action would have created awareness of the new dictatorship. Eventually, orders were issued to strengthen it, to distract penguins and make them feel like it wasn't controlled. During the uprising, it was used by the rioters to throw bricks at Snoss officers and police who tried to capture them and send them to gaol.

In recent years, an elevator has been installed, and it continues to attract tourists to this day.

Cuisine

Frankterran Cuisine has been known for making delicious food that has been famous through out the Antarctic. Over the course of several centuries during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the Frankterrans perfected the art of cooking and has been the only true competitor with it's neighbor, Liguria.

For Meat, the Frankterrans Enjoy eating Fish like the rest of the Antarctic. However, some occasionally enjoy eating the delicacy dish known as Escargot, which is Cooked RocketSnails, which are native inhabitants of Frankterre. Duck, often fried, is also an occasional delicacy among Frankterrans, although it is eaten less than escargot as it is viewed as being less fancy. They also love Bread, and they make a special styled bread known as Baugettes, which is produced from the wheat they grow in their fields. The Frankterrans are also known for making several variants of cheese. Cows naturally live on the island and eat the Franterran Grass that they crave. They make special soft cheese called Brie that they love to put on their bread for breakfast or for a snack. However, the Brie Cheese is very smelly when it gets older than a week, and many penguins who live outside Frankterre do not like this. In many cases, some regions that were under Alemanian and Ligurian control such as the cities of Strauzbourg and Awesome, reflect some Alemanian and Ligurian influences. The influx of immigrants in recent decades has helped inspire Frankterran chefs to improvise, blend, and create new and unique high quality dishes. For drinks, inhabitants of Frankterre like to drink Coffee or Tea during Breakfast, and are also famous for their Cream Soda, which they produce in the Souththern part of the Island. For Dessert, The Frankterrans love to have Pastries, pies, cakes, ice cream, Creme Brulee, and numerous bakery goods.

When Frankterrans eat, they usually take their time and chill out. It is known that they can have two to three hour long meals (when they aren't working) and usually chat. This habit can be found everywhere on the island and in it's colonies too, since food is nearly sacred there. Such long dining experiences can be done both at home and at restaurants.

Fashion

The Frankish capital of Parie is known for it's Fashion, even more so than Zurich. Frankterre is always wearing the latest fahions designed by Fashion Designers who live in the city. In 2009, The Fashion Police considered them to be the Most Fashionable Country in Antarctica so far. However, the Farmers and Villagers usually just wear casual clothing since they are hard workers.

Military

Historically, Frankterre had a strong yet multitasking army, but their culture did not have to be spread through warfare, but through their artwork and culinary expertise. Nevertheless, Frankterre's poor army led to it's easy invasion by the Khanz during the Khanzem War in 1913; this prompted the Frankterrans and their nationalistic egos to start a Resistance Movement that would become one of the most important resistance armies in the Khanzem War. After the war's end, the Resistance's leader, Charles de Gol, was appointed Commander General of Frankterre by the King, and he reinstated the best soldiers of the Resistance into Frankterre's new army. The 1920's was a great time for Frankterre and it's economy, and it was when it's army began to improve and build. Frankterre eventually debuted it's army in the Olde Antarctica War, and later they fought as a proud supporter of the USA's independence. Then, the riots of Parie occured against the Frankterran Emperor, which caused internal conflict. The army was weakened and divided even after the re-establishment of peace, and it was caught by surprise when it was invaded by Alemania in 2006. It was later a proud supporter of it's annexation to Snowzerland, until they got sick of Swiss Ninja. It's army began to rebuild under it's co-ruling with Batavia, and when it went on it's own once more in 2011, it had a decent army once more. It's goal is to create an army that will Rival the UK. Frankterre is currently one of the three countries in the Ninja Archipelago to possess nuclear weapons, but they've signed a treaty limiting and sometimes prohibiting the use of them.

Square Islands recently distributed Leo to Francterre; Francterre hopes to improve its military status by putting it to good use.

Foreign relations

Acadia - Decent. Some of Acadia's culture is influenced by Frankterre, and they also have French as an official language. Frankterre also trades occasionally with Acadia. Despite this, Frankterre dislikes Brant Esser and his hostile foreign relations with countries such as Dorkugal, East Pengolia and the USA. Some Frankterrans are also jealous of Acadia trying to imitate their "colonial empire", while others simply laugh at such a notion.

Alemania - Terrible. Frankterre and Alemania have been enemies for many centuries as they both have tried to take land from each other. Their relations continue to be bad as they are ruled by Swiss Ninja.

Calada - Decent. Frankterre is only friends with Calada because of Crebbec. In many cases, Frankterre has pressured the English speaking Caladians to give Crebbec independence.

Castilla - Excellent. - Both nations have been trading partners for several centuries. The royal family of Castilla is descended from the now extinct royal family of Frankterre.

Culldrome Isles - Good. The Culldrome Isles is one of Frankterre's most prominent trading partners outside of the AU.

Duck Island - Poor. Frankterre hardly recognizes Duck Island as a legitimate country, nor do they recognize duck rights in Frankterre. In fact, duck is a delicacy enjoyed often in Frankterre.

East Pengolia - Good. Frankterre's Socialist Party was inspired by East Pengolia's successful Marxist government. In fact, Bolsheevic Penguinsky adopted the idea of Socialism and Communism for his future nation at a Pariesian Cafe in 2005.

Freezeland - Good. Being allies with the High Penguins since the Khanzem War, Frankterre has good relations with Freezeland. They're trading partners.

Liguria - Great. Despite Liguria also being allies with Snowzerland, Frankterre and Liguria are still close allies with a long history. The two have been trading partners for many centuries, with friendly competition between the two over artwork and cuisine. Frankterre was also responsible for the formation of a unified Ligurian nation long ago.

Puffle'and - Bad. Frankish puffles and penguins alike hate Puffish puffles, and a great animosity exists between them. For centuries, they have been cultural rivals, and they still are. They fought during the Epic Revolution, and while they have been allies on rare occasions, their relations still remain poor due to Swiss Ninja being their monarch.

Snowzerland - Terrible. Frankterre hates Snowzerland for lying to them about their government. However, the city of Geneva has a lot of Frankterran Influence.

United Provinces - Good. Frankterre and the United Provinces are trading partners, and have been military allies in the past. The UP has also attempted to get Frankterre involved in the Western Union, to possibly become an observer nation.

United States of Antarctica - Great. Though they fought during the First Hontanan War, Frankterre and the USA were allies during the Epic Revolution, and the USA helped to liberate Frankterre from Swiss Ninja.

Overseas Departments

Just like its neighbors, Frankterre is and was an imperialistic nation. Although not as successful as Castilla and Puffle'and, Frankterre does have it's large share of overseas territories/provinces (departments). Here is a list, in the order they were obtained:
