As I Awake is the short story of XTUX Hun's revival, told from his own perspective.

The Event

As I lay dying, beneath the rubble of the collappsed, rotting hotel, I swore revenge. The bite marks on my face were bleeding profusely, and I knew it was only a matter of minutes before I died. The blasted yellow puffle, Leonardo, had slashed at my face, distracting me as I attempted to destroy the hotel where the Hochstadt Gang resided for the night. The resulting explosion left me burried under the rubble, and I cursed the puffle, and swore that I would get him, if I ever could. But my consciousness was slowly dissolving into nothingness, and I struggled to regain sanity. As the world began to fade away, as the ruined hotel melted before my eyes, I knew I would not recover. A few seconds later I lay beneath the rubble, thoughtless, motionless, forgotten, as the flies swarmed overhead and the sound of fire sirens comming closer and closer. I was dead.

Reactivating. Reactivating.

A short, sharp shock jolted me, and I groggily began to become aware of a tingling sensation. As I slowly regained consciousness, my mind was filled with questions. Where was I? What is going on? But what bothered me most was, wasn't I dead? I slowly become aware of voices screaming, and I distinctly heard someone shout "RUN" in a terrified voice. I began to hear equipment whirring in the background, and I sensed the presence of others in the room.

50 percent reactivated. 60 percent reactivated. 70 percent reactivated.

What was that voice? It sounded unnatural, artificial, almost computer generated. I began to struggle against the bonds that held me, but it was no use. My eyes refused to open, and I began to quiver. The tingling sensation grew stronger and stronger, and I realized that it was electricity, surging through my body. It started at the tip of my feathers, and was flowing quickly along my nerves to my electronic, computerized brain. This revelation startled me, and then I became aware of the voice again.

90 percent reactivated. 94 percent reactivated. 96 percent reactivated. 98 percent reactivated. 99 percent reactivated.

I held my breath, as the flowing electricity reached my bran and started to flow through it like liquid, deeper and deeper into my mind. I felt my strength returning, and my crazed and confused mind began to clam down. I heard the other being's terrified screams and remarks, and I felt as if I had heard them before. It didn't seem long ago, but the memory was fleeting, and it escaped my searches.

Reactivated. Loading personality.

Suddenly, a great calm fell over me, and my eyelids no longer resisted me. My eyes flashed open, and I slowly began to observe the world around me. I was lying on a cold, hard table, held to it by iron chains. My head was connected to a strange machine by metal cables, and it slowly began to disconnect itself from me.

"I'm not dead. How interesting. I was dead. Wow. Surprising. How'd I die again? Oh. Wait. It's coming back now. THE HOCHSTADT GANG." I spoke slowly, as I looked around me. Then, I saw THEM.

Two of the gang's members were standing there, and I recongnized them as Dave, Clovis. There was also another penguin that I didn't recognize. I laughed.

"Perfect timing. Ah, so you thought I was dead? YOU'RE WRONG."

Feeling a burst of strength, I tore the metal chains from me with ease, and stood up. It felt so good to stand, but there were more pressing matters at hand. Dave, who was quivering with fear, pulled out a tazor and fired it at me. I stuck out my flipper and absorbved the energy, using it to charge up my gun. I aimed and fired, rendering Dave's gun useless. The penguin I did not know had passed out, and the others were terrified. I fired my gun a few more times, and Dave lay on the ground moaning, clutching his flipper. Clovis began to scream and bang on the elevator door, but unluckily for him it was locked. He too passed out. I looked around and smiled, as I observed the room. But for security's sake, I decided to run a scan on the room. Strangely, when it finished, it showed ANOTHER life form still in the room that had escaped my attention.

Odd. But if there were any left, I'd take them out anyways. So I slowly began to ascend the elevator shaft, and I heard noises down below. Thinking quickly, I dropped back down and saw...Leonardo.

"Surprise!" I shouted, and he stumbled backwards, surprised as I had intended.

"Hhmmph. If I've fought you in the past, I can fight you again!" he said, in a very unconvincing tone.

I began to laugh, but then remembered my built-in rocket launcher. Slowly, I pulled it out and began rappidly firing at him. I didn't care if I hit him, as long as I gave that beast the scare of his lifetime. After all, he HAD bitten my face. The yellow puffle barely managed to dodge my rockets (which was strange, as I didn't aim carefully), and he ran towards the fallen Clovis. I saw him grab his gun and I started, but them calmed down. That gun wasn't strong enough to penetrate me. Leonardo fired at me a couple times, but the bullets bounced off of my hardened skin like pebbles.

""$#%@#$!!! That didn't work!", he muttered. "I hate Robots...."

Rage filled my mind, and I knew I had to stop playing around with that puffle. "Stop trying to play games with me, puffle. FACE MY WRATH!" I screamed, and I pulled a very large, blue gernade from my inventory. I'd been saving it for this very purpose, and I pulled out the silver pin and threw it at the puffle.

KABAM!!!!!

It threw him and the rest of the gang across the room, and Leonardo was slammed into a concrete wall. I took him for dead, but I wasn't fooled by Clovis. I kicked Clovis's motionless form twice, and then threw Dave at the wall. They were no threat to me, and I left the room with glee. Pulling out a pen and notepad, I checked off Dave and Clovis on my hit list, and as I ascended to the top floor in the elevator, I felt happy. I was back. And nobody was going to stop me now. I noticed that a purple "X" was beginning to form on my head, but I ignored it. I had another penguin to take care of, and he wouldn't be any trouble. Or would he?
