The Antarctic Peninsula is the second largest state of the USA by population. It is located on the coast of the Antarctic continent, on the Antarctic Peninsula just as the name suggests. Being one of the largest states in the USA, it houses many port cities, many of which are connected to SABER, and has been nicknamed "The Long Arm of the Trade" due to its many trading posts and position on many important trade routes. The northern tip of the peninsula is only a short distance away to other important islands such as Club Penguin and King George's Island.

History

The Peninsula has had a long history, being one of the earliest places of penguin settlement on mainland Antarctica. It was where the first descendants of Sigurd and Bacchus migrated to and lived as they began to populate the continent. The Land of Asgard, one of the first countries to be founded on mainland Antarctica, was centered around the Antarctic Peninsula and surrounding regions. Over time, more penguins began to move to the Antarctic Peninsula, increasing its population, and making the Peninsula a highly populated region in Antarctica.

The Peninsula was a considered a good place to live for much of its history due to its climate and geography, but it was difficult to reach in its history. Just north of the South Shetland Islands is the feared Drake Passage, and the even more treacherous Cape Horn. Both are difficult to navigate because of the strong current, narrow straits, and severe storms. Even so, the Peninsula still attracted many penguins, who settled in the coastal regions of the Peninsula.

In the early years of Antarctic history, The Peninsulan Slav'ens was formed, which was a small country located on the Peninsula. The years went by and many more countries took its place, including Damelaw, which was established by Viking Penguins. Eventually, Damelaw was conquered by the High Penguin Confederacy, and the Peninsula remained during the rule of the High Penguin Confederacy for the next few hundred years. After the High Penguin Confederacy fell during the Khanzem War, a government in exile was established around the Antarctic Peninsula and other regions in Antarctica.

After the war, many other countries controlled the Peninsula, with one of them being Puffle'and, which gained control in 1990, though the region would break away in the Colonial Antarctica War. In the Colonial Antarctica War, the Peninsula was a major battleground for the Revolutionists and Loyalists, with many important battles during the war being fought in the state, particularly in the areas across from Penguin Town and around Shiverpool. In 2000, when the USA was formed, the Antarctic Peninsula became one of the first states of the United States of Antarctica.

During the War of 2002, the Antarctic Peninsula saw some of the heaviest fighting early in the war, as the state faced an invasion by Acadia, Freezeland, and Puffle'and. Under-equipped and largely inexperienced Antarctican troops and Peninsular national guardsmen were defeated and forced to retreat in the first few months of the war. The capital was temporarily moved to Aurelia after Shiverpool fell to a combined Acadian and Freezelandian force, and the state continued to fight on. Near the end of the war, despite the fall of South Pole City to the Freezelandians and their allies, Antarctican forces were beginning to take back land in the state.

Government

Unlike the United States of Antarctica, which has a system of government primarily based around judges, the government of the Antarctic Peninsula consists of three branches of government. There is a governor, who is assisted by a lieutenant governor and a cabinet, a bicameral legislature consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives, and a state court system. The governor, lieutenant governor, and all cabinet positions are up for election every four years, while Senate and House of Representatives seats are up for election every six and two years, respectively.

Economy

Much like Sub-Antarctica, the Antarctic Peninsula's economy is based on shipping and trade, due to its strategic position on SABER. Every major coastal city in the Peninsula has a port, and many large coastal towns have a port as well. Another large part of the economy is tourism, since many penguins from all over Antarctica come to the Peninsula to see the Peninsula's beautiful scenery and to visit its cities. Farming is also another important part of the economy, since the soil is fertile, especially in the interior of the Peninsula, where there is a large amount of open land.

Involvement

It is a major car manufacturer and also houses Strait City. The Peninsula is also home to many major shipping ports, with many ships coming in and out of its ports, importing and exporting various goods from afar. It also ships many products from inland Antarctica to other overseas places, like the Ninja Archipelago and Shops Island. In addition, the state is also home to a large fishing industry due to the state mostly consisting of coastal regions. Many boats and ships go out to the coastal seas and fish out many loads of fish to be delivered around the continent.
