Alemania, once proudly known as Deuchland (pronounced DOOCH-land) and Holyswissia, is the island homeland of the German Language, Culture, and of the Germanic Viking Penguins. It was conquered and reconquered by Swiss Ninja in 2010, and it is the largest member of the German States.

History

Swiss Ninja's empire wasn't big enough, so he turned to defenseless islands for annexation. He immediately laid eyes on Deuchland because of their similarities in culture. They speak similar languages, have identical architecture styles, and has similar customs. One big difference, though, is that Deuchland was humble. Seeing these similarities, Swiss Ninja annexed the country into his Empire, successfully passing Gaston in land ownership.

Early History

Holyswissia was originally inhabited by Germanic Viking Penguins in 50 BC. They had similar traits to the creatures of Snowzerland (excluding, of course, the ego), which they would later colonize themselves. They lived a very "Barabaric" sort of life, and raided many other islands like Gol (Frankterre), Liguria, and Magyaria. After the Fall of The Peninsulan Slav'ens, the Chiefs of the Germanic Tribes decided to advance in civilization and reunited the island under one sole emperor, or "Kaiser", which was the ruler of the Island for Centuries. However, Alemania followed the path of its neighbors by adopting feudalism, and although the Alemanians had a kaiser, the real power was wielded by the lords and nobles of smaller regions that became known as states. However, they named their country the "Holy Penguin Empire" after the Penguin Empire.

Middle Ages and Renaissance

Alemania actually had Kingdoms within the Holy Penguin Empire, that also had kings....but those kings had to pay homage to the emperor, since the empire was more of a Confederation of culturally similar states than an actual unified country. Alemania also was big on the Feudal System, and it kept them safe though the ages from Viking raids. Alemania was not terribly involved in the Renaissance like Frankterre and Liguria, but there where some who contributed to it. Alemania's involvement in the renaissance led to the advancement of wood carving and the invention of the printing press.

1800's

The Holy Penguin Empire collapsed officially in 1812 when the Frankterreans conquered the area. After being driven out, Alemania became a cluster of small nation states. The largest of these states was Havaria in the South and Pruscoe in the very North. As Frankterre's hatred grew with Alemania island, Pruscoe used anti-Frankterrean propaganda to win a military alliance against them. The alliance led to better ties with Alemania's kingdoms and the invasion of eastern Frankterre. The Modern day Deusland was created in 1879 under the Commander General of Pruscoe, Hans von Dakota. General Dakota persuaded all of the Alemanian kingdoms to unite to become a large military and ecomonic power because of the cultural and linguistic similarities they share. Hence, Alemania was unified under Kaiser Johnson, who started the Johnson Dynasty. His first name was Kaiser, and that also became his ruling title his family ruled for decades until Khanzem.

Split of North and South

At first, the government of Alemania wanted to support Khanzem. They began helping by sending troops, but a group of penguins to the south of the island disagreed with the persecution of High Penguins. With only 2 months into the war, the government had to withdraw their troops to help stop the newly formed Civil War. The eventual outcome was that Deuchland split into two countries, North and South. North Deuchland came under a dictatorship and continued to help Khanzem until their defeat. The far smaller South Deuchland became a republic and helped stop Khanzem the best they could. After the Khanzem war over, the two countries continued to dislike each other, and had occasional small battles from time to time. Rusca invaded North Alemania at the War's end, and made it communist. North Alemania stayed communist until 1990, when Rusca became democratic and withdrew their troops from the region. North Alemania then became a Monarchy.

USA to 2009

Of course, during Colonial Antarctica, both countries joined causes of the War. South Deuchland supported the Revolutionists, while the north supported the Loyalists. The war ended with a victorious South Deuchland. Neither sides of Deuchland joined the USA after the country was formed, because they each wanted a different government than the one chosen.

Pengolia, (later East Pengolia) on the other hand, started to support North Deuchland and the Kaiser. South Deuchland was now no match for their hated enemy's alliance. East Pengolia preferred the North over the South, even though neither supported socialism. The North had an absolute Kaiser, though, and they agreed to help each other out.

Annexation, loss, and Reannexation

In 2010, Swiss Ninja conquered South Deuchland. He promised to help reunify the rest of the island, much to the delight of the small, weak South. The North was strongly opposed.

It actually didn't take much effort to take over North Deuchland because they feared Snowzerland greatly, and East Pengolia had not been supporting them much anymore. Swiss Ninja's cronies, in partnership with the South, rolled over and snatched the capital in about two weeks.

The South Deuchlandians wanted to force a democracy on the formerly totalitarian state, but the North was strongly opposed. Swiss Ninja took pity and eventually came to an agreement. While Swiss would be in total control over everything (with the help of many cronies), a democratically elected puppet governor would be selected along with a democratically elected legislature of yes-penguins. Of course, Swiss Ninja did not tell the South that. The North was greatly pleased, and they pledged loyalty to SN.

The North, now glad to know who was really in charge, agreed, much to the shock and awe of the South. The South, having been tricked, pledged loyalty to Swiss Ninja. The North asked one last favor of Swiss Ninja before the "democracy" began- to rename himself "Kaiser" instead of Emperor. Swiss Ninja did as he was told.

Everyone was happy, but they had been tricked. They were totally unaware that the legislature and governor were just for show. The real power was Swiss Ninja, whom the South thought was leaving and took the title of "Kaiser" as an honor, not as a leadership. The Island was liberated from Snowzerland by the USA and the Viking Empire in the Liberation of Holyswissia. It joined the Viking Empire to please both the North and South. However, in 2011, the Viking Empire was absorbed by Castilla, the enemy of Alemania. Thus, Alemania decided to diplomatically join Snowzerland to unite the Germanic States into one country.

However, Alemania was able to still keep its name and flag. The north and south also now know of Swiss Ninja's rule, much to Gottfried's and Bernard Hochstadt's disapproval.

Geography

Alemania Island is a relatively cool island with climates and biomes similar to its fellow German States. It is a mainly forest biome in the majority of the island. While the South is considered to be very mountainous with placid lakes, the North is rather flat. The Southern Regions attract many skiiers and snowboarders to the mountains annually. The northern flatlands are used as farmland, where cows, sheep, and wild puffles may roam. Several rivers flow through the island; the majority of Alemania's major cities can be found by large rivers.

Former Flag

Deuchland was assigned this former flag when taken over by Swiss Ninja. The Flag represents many things. The Background Represents Deuchland island, while the White Cross and red square in the middle represents Snowzerland's (secret) power over the island. The Two Coat of Arms Represents the two Cities of Geneva (the capital of Snowzerland), giving the South the false belief that their government is democratic, and Zurich, Snozerland's largest city.

New Flag

The new flag of Alemania was formed soon after the island was liberated. The flag is similar to the old one except that the colors are upside down and that it has a black penguin -the national symbol- on it. The new flag was kept even after Snowzerland reannexed them.

Culture

Cuisine

Trout is the most common freshwater fish on the Alemanian menu; pike, carp, and European perch also are listed frequently. Seafood traditionally was restricted to the northern coastal areas, except for pickled herring, often served as Rollmops (a pickled herring fillet rolled into a cylindrical shape around a piece of pickled gherkin or onion) or Brathering (fried, marinated herring). Today many sea fish, like fresh herring, tuna, mackerel, salmon and sardines are well established throughout the country. Prior to the industrial revolution and the ensuing pollution of the rivers, salmon were common in the rivers of Rhine, Elbe, and Oder. The Alemanians also enjoy making sausages out of the fish and assorted seafood they collect, and is also a national delicacy.

Vegetables are often used in stews or vegetable soups, but are also served as a side dish. Carrots, turnips, spinach, peas, beans, broccoli and many types of cabbage are very common. Fried onions are a common addition to many meat dishes throughout the country. The abundance of cabbage has led to the development of Alemania's famous sauerkraut, a pickled cabbage dish that has been the main ingredient in the USA's Reuben sandwich. However, in Alemania, sauerkraut is served as itself as a side dish.

Potatoes, while a major part of the Alemania cuisine, are usually not counted among vegetables by the Alemanians. They are the staple food of Alemania and were introduced to the country in the 1500's by the Castillans that conquered the island of Beru. Alemania's secondary staple food in its South is a special type of thick noodle known as Spätzle. Spätzle, influenced by the Ligurian pasta making, has spread from southern Alemania to Snowzerland and Osterreach, who both have similar cuisines.

Relationships with Other Nations/Provinces

• Frankterre - Very, Very, Very Poor. They have been enemies for Centuries as both had tried to take land from each other.
• Castilla - Bittersweet. Despite their political disagreements due to Snoss control, Alemania's citizens are crazy about Castilla's Islas Balearicas on its eastern coast. Large Alemanian tourist influxes to Castilla's Islas Balearicas have crowded the islands' beaches and has created an extremely profitable business, much to Castillan delight. Some Alemanian tourists also have helped to establish Dance Clubs and resorts there as well.
• Liguria - Good. they are allies.
• Osterreach - Good. Share a similar culture.
• Snowzerland - Same as above.
• USA - Decent. Alemanians do not hate the USA like Snowzerland does, and many have immigrated there. Nevertheless, the politicians in control of Alemania are Swiss Ninja's yes-men, thus they hate the USA too, straining ties.
• Tropicalis - Great. They are allies and Tropicalis likes their culture.
  • Gernomia - Also same as above. Their culture is very, very similar and those who live there like Alemania.
